Who we are
Umoja is a not-for-profit organisation that acts as an umbrella body for conservancies in Uganda. Since 2021, UMOJA has been engaged in building the capacity of conservancies, raising conservation awareness, and providing support to communities and landowners who want to conserve wildlife on their land.
We believe community conservation is about uniting communities in the name of conservation to have one voice in policy dialogue and advocacy, to improve livelihoods, promote coexistence, and to strengthen the capacity of local institutions while preserving traditional cultural practices.
Umoja promotes the conservancy model as a way for communities and landowners who share their land with wildlife to take a lead role in managing their natural resources. By building the capacity of private landowners and communities, and serving as a platform for knowledge sharing and multi-stakeholder dialogue, Umoja is catalysing the conservation movement in Uganda.
